First Fridays in Downtown Bryan definitely give us in the BCS area something to look forward to, especially now that we’re heading into cooler temperatures. Destination Bryan and Baylor Scott & White are making a good thing even better with their free live concerts at the Palace Theater, so after you’ve enjoyed the farmers market, street performers, classic car show and live art demonstrations, cap off the night with Donovan Keith on Oct. 1 at 8 p.m.
Donovan Keith is an musical artist originally from the midwest, but now hails out of Austin. With his blend of soul, funk and some rock and roll, Keith brings a sound that oozes nostalgia for those great soul and funk bands of the past but which also has a certain freshness that makes it exciting. In addition to his great sound, he is also known for his fantastic live performances full of energy and fun. With his broad range of appeal, he’s caught the eye of some of music’s most respected performers, opening for the likes of Enrique Iglesias and Erykah Badu.
While Keith hasn’t yet released his debut album, he has released plenty of singles and EP’s over the past four years that will be more than enough to provide a great and original performance. This First Friday concert will take place in historic Downtown Bryan at the Palace Theater, an open air amphitheater with plenty of comfortable stadium seating, allowing audience members to enjoy the great performances and any type of weather without any worries. Free parking will be available along the street in marked spots as well as in the parking lot between Papa Perez and Sale Park. You can also pay to park at the Roy Kelly Garage on E. 26th St. near Texas Avenue.
