If you love history and in particular, biblical history, join Downtown Bryan’s Ice House On Main on April 12 from 7-9 p.m. for the premiere of “The Philistines: Warriors to the West?” brought to you by Brazos Valley’s own Gesher Media.

Gesher Media is new to the Brazos Valley area and is eager to share their projects with Bryan-College Station residents. “Gesher” is a Hebrew word that directly translates to the English word “bridge.” This is important because the company’s main aspiration is to be that bridge between the text of the Bible, historical and archeological evidence, and how it all relates to contemporary society.

The premiere of “The Philistines: Warriors to the West?” is the first episode of the series titled “In Those Days,” and will be followed by five other films that explore biblical stories in their cultural and historical context. Producer and creator Doug Johnson says that the series “revolves around a 90 minute interview on the original story of the Tabernacle.” By the end of the series, the stories explored in each film will come together to create the bigger picture of the Bible.

“The Philistines” was filmed on location in the lands of the Bible and produced by leading filmmakers. Scholars, historians, and archeologists from numerous countries collaborated in critically examining the evidence, and the result is a film that brings the Bible and its history to life. To gain a sense of what it will be like, watch the trailer for “The Philistines: Warriors to the West?”

The concept for the film was created several years ago but the project became difficult to complete due to Covid-19. In the interim, Gesher Media worked on advertising methods, social media and production skills. Johnson says it’s important to Gesher Media to premiere the film in Bryan because while the process has been long going, the production group has been inspired by the Brazos Valley’s strength. “We’ve all been through a lot these last two years,” Johnson says, “and we have worked together to get through Covid. We want to premiere in Bryan because they deserve to be the first people to see our work.”

Bryan’s beautiful and historical Ice House is the perfect setting for a film highlighting the history of the Old Testament. This premiere is for anyone who enjoys history, archeology, and the Bible. Gesher Media and scholars will also be holding a question and answer time after the film. Tickets are on sale through The Ice House website for $10, and the doors open at 6:30 p.m.
