OPAS Presents “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical”

0

Imagine an evening filled with a heartwarming performance by phenomenal actors, who take you into a different world and leave you wanting more after the stage goes dark. There’s no better evening than one at the theatre, where extraordinary people morph themselves into a character to tell a story, to entertain, and to inspire the audience. On Friday, February 4, and Saturday, February 5, OPAS will present “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” at Rudder Auditorium.

Directed by Marc Bruni and choreographed by Josh Prince, this performance brings to light not only the true, inspiring story of Carole King, a musical legend who climbed her way to stardom, but also highlights the events and people who encouraged and supported her to achieve her dreams, including her husband, Gerry Goffin, and best friends, Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann.

King, a phenomenal singer/songwriter and a figure who is looked up to by many in the world of music, inspired this Broadway show, which has won two Tony Awards (2014) and one Grammy (2015). The musical will feature hit songs like “I Feel The Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You’ve Got A Friend” and of course the song that gave the show its title, “Beautiful.” If you’re of the generation that grew up with King, the songs will take you straight back to driving around with the windows down and dancing with friends on a Friday night. If you’re younger, then King’s success story, along with her touching lyrics and music, will inspire you. Either way, don’t miss this chance to be carried along on the wings of truly great talent that shaped the culture and music of the 70s.

There will be three shows this weekend, one on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and two on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The MSC OPAS website has tickets for sale online, ranging from $26 to $100, depending on seat location.
