NAMI Smarts for Advocacy

Have you ever wanted to make an impact? To help others who are battling a disease invisible to the eye? NAMI is offering you a chance to get involved, get informed, and make a difference.

NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness. The entirely free hands-on advocacy training program is here to help train and educate individuals all around the country.

The goal is to reach out to a different person every day, as there are so many desperately in need.

Mental illness affects a staggering number of people. As many as 60 million Americans are said to deal with some form of mental illness. NAMI was developed in hopes of spreading awareness and igniting a knowledgeable revolution, so that stigmas surrounding mental illness can be broken down.

On January 27, from 9 a.m. to12 p.m., the local Bryan-College Station NAMI organization will assemble to start the new year off right with an annual informational meeting. Registering for this upcoming local gathering is completely free and as easy as steps one, two and three. You just have to fill in three short blanks stating your first, last name, and email address.

NAMI has developed a multitude of unique public education programs that help to promote the idea of wellness throughout both the body and the mind. This educational opportunity will enable you to be educated and trained on developmental skills and tips to help you understand anyone in your life who is dealing with mental illness.

One in four Americans will be affected with mental illness this year, and, through the easy step of staying active and aware, we can help to ensure that victims don’t go misunderstood or mistreated.

This organization isn’t just looking for your monetary donations. There are so many different ways to contribute to this great cause. The NAMI Brazos Valley offers a number of ways to get involved, such as volunteering, registering for weekly updates and newsletters, joining the organization, or walking and riding to help the organization take some serious action on improving treatment and awareness of mental illness disorders.

Let NAMI help to turn that frown upside down. As cliché as that sentiment sounds, this program really does exist in hopes of spreading awareness and empowering individuals to take action. By prematurely pinpointing diagnosis, scheduling interventions and researching targeted medications, mental illness can be treated effectively.
