MSC Forsyth: 30th Anniversary Party Featuring Nathan Felix’s Immersive Opera

0

When you think of art galleries, you don’t typically imagine a party with opera music, do you? On Friday, Nov. 15, from 6:30 p.m-8:30 p.m., the Forsyth Galleries will be celebrating its 30th anniversary with an opera spectacle, and you are invited!

If you didn’t think art galleries could have birthday parties, too, then you’re missing out. The Forsyth Galleries celebration is free and will provide savory appetizers along with an open bar you can enjoy while listening to the music of Austin native Nathan Felix. Felix is a classical music composer, as well as the band leader for The Noise Revival Orchestra, and his work has been featured on BBC, MTV, NPR & PBS.

This will be an evening where you can travel from one art exhibit to the next, all while enjoying Felix’s original opera numbers. Never one to listen to naysayers, Felix turns all challenges into opportunities. Never had formal music lessons? Write the symphony anyway. Want to record the symphony but don’t have the money? Try Kickstarter. Feeling ready for a new challenge? Compose a piece for six pianos when you can’t play the piano. Don’t own a piano? Find all six for free on Craigslist. With music from such a composer filling the venue, this event will be unlike any other gallery opening you’ve visited!

The Forsyth Galleries provide a space that allows you to experience different aspects of art through events and exhibitions. They are located in the Memorial Student Center at Texas A&M University. Their operating hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. They are closed on Mondays and university holidays. Admission to the galleries is always free to students and the public. The 30th anniversary event is also free, but RSVP is encouraged on the gallery’s website.
