Friends of Chamber Music: “Counterpoint in Motion”

0

In this season of love, fall head over heels for the rich, blissful, and romantic music of harp player Bridget Kibbey and violinist Alexi Kenney at Friends of Chamber Music’s “Counterpoint in Motion” on Feb. 12 at 5 p.m.

Elena Reece, Artistic Director for Friends of Chamber Music BCS, (FCM) describes the evening’s program as “works of the Renaissance and Baroque composers juxtaposed with compositions from the Romantic era, balanced by sensibilities of modern soundscapes.” The performance will include the music of artists such as Saint-Saëns, C.P.E. Bach and Bartók, among others.

Kibbey and Kenney are a recent pairing that is quickly being noticed. Harpist Bridget Kibbey has played all over the globe, and her talent allows her to play countless musical genres and expansive ranges. Her music is inspired by her thoughts; if she can dream it, she can play it. Kibbey has been noticed by reviewers such as Vogue and The New York Times and has won the Premiere Prix at the Journées de Les Harpes Competition, the Peter Mennin Prize for Artistic Excellence and Leadership at Juilliard, and many more.

Alexi Kenney, famous for his groundbreaking violin playing, has built his musical career by following his interests and listening to his heart. He has played for several symphony orchestras throughout the world such as the Pittsburgh Symphony, Orchestra de la Suisse Romande, and Virginia Symphony. His love for chamber music is abundantly clear in all his performances—whether it be solo, as a part of an orchestra, or in small groups, his passion is   real and beautiful.

FCM has consistently brought culturally diverse music to the Brazos Valley. Reece states that FCM was started by a small group of avid music lovers all associated with Texas A&M in some way. Together, they’ve been providing the BCS community with the opportunity to enjoy chamber music of outstanding quality for 25 seasons.
This free concert will be held at A&M United Methodist Church in College Station, located in the Northgate District, but is also available through Livestream at fcmtx.org. While no registration is needed if you plan to attend in person, you do need to sign up for the livestream option and a link will be sent to your email. FCM is invested in your safety, so all in-person attendees will be required to wear a mask at all times.
