Are you a small business owner wanting to manage your website and transactions on the go? Or a blogger that needs to be able to post updates away from home? Well, there’s an app for that.
Wix, a well-known website builder, recently released their new app: Wix Owner. This app is meant to help you “build, customize and manage a website and mobile app experience for your business and community.” According to the Wix website, of course.
The app interface isn’t as intuitive as the desktop version, but after a bit of messing around, it’s not too hard to figure out. If you already have a website built, then, when you open the app, the top of the page will say the name of one of your websites. You can then change between the websites you have saved. From there, each of the functions pertains to whatever website you have selected. It’s an interesting solution to dealing with multiple sites on a small screen but can take some getting used to. Something to take note of is that once the website has been published, it can only be edited from the desktop site. You can still use the app to manage accounts, transactions, and the like for that website.
Another drawback to website building on the app is that there doesn’t seem to be as many templates – and they’re certainly not as easy to browse. It also takes more time to load changes to the site through the app. Though once you get a website going, it’s not too hard to mess with section order, pages, and descriptions. Just make sure to hit done when changing pictures and text, otherwise, it may not save the change. Although many of the issues with the app seem to stem from compensating for the small screen, there is also a common complaint with the app that is unrelated to screen size. The app’s ability to track payments and make transactions can be finicky, which can be a big problem for business owners trying to use it. Wix has said they’re working on this issue, though, so it may be resolved before too long.
Overall, if you simply need to track analytics, transactions, and visitor interactions for your website, the Wix Owner app could be a good on-the-go solution for you. But if you’re looking for general website building, the browser version is the way to go.
