Summertime offers us the chance to enjoy things we aren’t able to find time for during the year. Going to the beach, the mountains, or exploring new cities top many people’s summer bucket lists. But don’t forget going to big name concerts, and this Friday, you’ll be able to do just that when veteran pop band Parachute, with Billy Rafoul and The Docs play at the Grand Stafford Theater in Downtown Bryan!

According to Josh Willis, the production manager and talent buyer at the Grand Stafford Theater, this is an important event for us here in town because it means that “the community here in Bryan College Station doesn’t have to drive hours out of town to Houston or Austin to see major artists and great shows.” With talented, popular bands like Parachute coming here to perform, we can enjoy our summer in BCS without having to travel!

Parachute is performing in Bryan on the heels of their first album release in three years, the self-titled “Parachute” that came out in May of this year. Known for smash hit singles like “She is Love,” “Under Control,” and “Something to Believe in,” Parachute has been writing and performing their brand of infectious, tightly-arranged pop music for a decade now. Made up of longtime friends from high-school Will Anderson, Johnny Stubblefield, and Christopher “Kit” French, Parachute released their first album in 2009. Since then, they’ve had the privilege of playing alongside renowned performers like Kelly Clarkson and Gavin DeGraw and have also headlined multiple sold out tours of their own. To have a band of this caliber here is a real treat!

Located in Bryan’s historic cultural district, the renovated Grand Stafford Theater remains committed to giving its customers and performers the highest quality production value possible, something that Willis is specifically excited about sharing with the audience on Friday. He says he’s looking forward to seeing “people’s reaction to the show and the caliber of production we’ll have in the house!”

Joining Parachute will be Billy Raffoul along with The Docs. Hailing from Canada, Raffoul has been playing guitar since age 10 and finished his first album this year at age 22. His distinctive voice and intimate lyrics are reminiscent of Neil Young, perfect for an acoustic set at the Grand Stafford. The Docs, originally from BCS, will round out this stellar evening with their progressive, Southern rock sound. Having played to huge crowds at Chilifest and SXSW among many other venues, The Docs are sure to be crowd pleasers at this up close and personal venue.

Tickets for Parachute are $20.00 at the door, but they are $18.00 if you purchase them ahead of time from the Grand Stafford Theater’s website. While planning for your summer excursions, don’t forget about the great things to do right here in our hometown!
