Summer in BCS isn’t known for being exotic or tropical, in spite of the higher temps, so why not let music carry you off to an enchanting new locale? This Friday, stop by the Ice House on Main and let the rhythms take you across borders with the sounds of Brazil performed by Choro das Tres on their 2019 USA and European tour!

The group is made up of three sisters and their father, and each adds a distinct instrument-focused sound comprised of breathtaking talent. Corina plays the flute, Elisa plays many instruments—among them the mandolin and piano—and Lia is on the seven string acoustic guitar while their father, Eduardo, plays a Brazilian hand drum similar to a tambourine.

Ever since they came together as a band in 2002, Choro das Tres has traveled across countries, released six albums, and won two awards. In Brazil, some of their accomplishments include performing in front of presidents and audiences of up to millions!

With all of Choro das Tres’ journeying comes the mission to spread their love of choro, a popular Brazilian instrumental music genre originating in 19th Century Rio de Janeiro. Although “choro” translates to “cry” or “lament,” you’ll quickly find that the genre is anything but melancholy with a melody that delights, resembling progressive bluegrass, and a rhythm that entices with its resemblance to samba.

Despite this band’s Brazilian roots, they’re no stranger to our little town of Bryan or the United States. In fact, they’ve played all across the country in schools and venues, and they even performed at the Ice House on Main back in 2017.

But before Choro das Tres was an internationally-known band, they were a family. It all started when Corina, the eldest of the three sisters, was inspired by Brazilian composer and choro musician, Altamiro Carrilho. This led her onto the path of music, which had her younger sisters following quickly after. Now with their father, they each stand out with their greatest success—Choro das Tres! So why not come see why theirs is a musical mission worth spreading?

The event is on Friday, June 26, and doors open at 7 p.m. and the music is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person and all ages are welcome! To purchase tickets for the event, visit https://bit.ly/2JBde49.
