Women’s basketball continues home win streak

The Aggie women’s basketball team extended their home win streak with a 69-54 win over Texas Tech. Danielle Adams earned the team’s second-ever triple double after racking up 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks. She is only the tenth player in Big 12 history to reach the triple-double. Tanisha Smith had 13 points and Tyra White scored 11 to add to the Aggie victory.

The Aggies return home to Reed Arena for a televised game against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls Jan. 31 at Noon.

Men’s tennis wins season-opening doubleheader

The Aggie men’s tennis team jumped out to a 2-0 record with a doubleheader at the Mitchell Tennis Center to open the spring season.

The men defeated Nicholls State and UT-Pan American 6-1 in both games. The Aggie men are back in action at the Mitchell Tennis Center in the ITA Kickoff Weekend Jan. 29 & 30. A&M will play Fresno State Jan. 29 at 1p.m., then face either Okla. State or Rice Jan. 30 at 1pm.

Men’s Swimming and Diving tame the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge

The Aggie men’s swimming and diving team came away with a 161.5-138.5 upset over the then-ranked No. 17 LSU Tigers.

Freshman Omar Enriquez swept the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyles and shattered the oldest record in school history in the 1,000. Enriquez finished the 1,000 in 9:13.42 and beat an Aggie record of 9:14.17 that stood for 27 years.

Enriquez along with senior Nikita Denisyako, junior Balazs Makany and junior Bryan Snowden all racked up two wins each to help the Aggies top the Tigers.

The Aggie men face another road test Friday, Jan. 29, travelling to SMU.

Women’s Swimming and Diving take road win at LSU

The top ten ranked Women’s swimming and diving team pulled off a 173-124 win over the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge.

The Aggie team won 10 of the 16 total events and senior Julia Wilkinson and freshman Maureen McLaine earned two wins each.

The team travels to Houston on Feb. 5 and returns home to the Student Rec Center Natatorium to host North Texas Feb. 6.

Track & Field split Texas A&M/Texas Dual Meet

The Texas A&M Track and Field had mixed results in the Texas A&M/Texas Dual Meet at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium. The men beat the Longhorns 92-64 and the women fell in a close one 80.5-78.5.

The men’s team won 10 of the 15 events, while the women grabbed six wins in the meet. Natasha Ruddock eliminated the school record in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.15.

Automatic NCAA qualifiers in the meet were Demetrius Pinder in the 400 and the men’s team earned a spot in the 4×400. On the women’s side Jessica Beard grabbed an NCAA qualifying spot.

The Aggies are back in the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium hosting some of the nation’s best in the Texas A&M Challenge. This event will feature three teams from the Big 12 (Texas A&M, Baylor & Texas), three from the SEC (Arkansas, Florida & South Carolina) and three from the PAC 10 (Oregon, Stanford & Washington State).
