Happy Yogurt makes for happy times

By Kassie Cessna

Bright blue wavy ceilings, pink walls and a white tile floor make Happy Yogurt one of the hippest, most unique businesses along Northgate.

The interior is decorated with a futuristic look yet manages to remain contemporary. This place is friendly from the moment you walk in with lights that hang from the ceiling like floating ice cubes as you take a seat on uniquely shaped stools.

Once your senses catch up you will hear the voice of Koda Madison, ‘02, who has a very unique story. Her co-worker is her mom and everyone that comes in calls her “Momma Judy.”

Most patrons stumble upon this place in the late hours of bar hopping at Northgate, but once you’ve been there you’ll understand why people keep going back.

With Asian delights such as egg rolls, mega buns, dumplings, sweet red bean buns, you’re sure to find something you like. With vegetarian options, beef and chicken available in many of the treats, most are under 250 calories. None of the food is fried, or greasy like most Asian restaurants.

Asian food not your thing? They also have pizza pockets, popcorn, cinnamon rolls, and Corn Dogs.

But let us not forget one of the most important things of Happy Yogurt — the fat free, sugar free, lactose intolerant friendly, yogurt. There are three basic flavors — chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Customers have the ability to swirl two, or get a mix of all three. Toppings change daily, but all are pretty healthy, so you’re sure to find something you like. My favorite? Vanilla with fresh strawberries and whipped cream — it’s delicious.

But wait, there’s more. Happy Yogurt does fresh shakes, smoothies, and teas that include Boba. Don’t know what Boba is? Koda describes it as, “the texture of a gummy bear but the shape of a blueberry.”

Also, Koda brags about her coffee coming in on a boat, and keeping people awake when they are studying long hours at Happy Yogurt with her free wi-fi.

Now let’s talk about hours. Most days they open at noon. Closing time? Well, you determine that because Happy Yogurt’s motto is, “We go home when you go home.”

Next time you’re at Northgate with your buddies, instead of getting your boring piece of pizza or late night Mexican food, give Happy Yogurt a try, because they are sure to be open, and ready to serve you.
