Gig ‘Em week says “Howdy” to incoming students

Students are encouraged to take part in the festivities and get engaged in campus activities before classes start. For many students the first activity was move in day on Aug. 22, but the fun and excitement continues all week long.

For students wanting to learn more about campus resources, there will be several library tours throughout the week, along with workshops about managing money, making the grades you want, finding a job, declaring majors, and many more.

After getting all of your questions answered at the workshops, take advantage of free food and activities, while learning about opportunities outside the classroom.

Wednesday will be highlighted by an ice cream social 11:00 a.m. on Simpson Drill Field. If you don’t know where it is just ask any good ‘ol Ag and they will show you the way. There will also be a movie shown at 8:30 p.m. in Rudder Auditorium.

Thursday offers more chances for free food with a pizza taste off at 11:00 a.m. on Simpson Drill Field. Thursday night there will be several things going on over at the Zone at Kyle Field. Stuff kicks off around 6:00 p.m. The United Methodist Student Center is sponsoring a Pie Party and the United Campus Ministry in Aggieland also has a cookout on Thursday evening.

Friday and Saturday are all about sports sports and more sports. It starts with Aggie Volleyball vs. UOP at 6:00 p.m. on Friday in Reed Arena. This is followed by #8 Aggie Soccer taking on Virginia Tech. This is Fish Camp night so there will be tons of people and lots of fun. This is a great way to get a real Aggie sporting experience under your belt. Interfraternity Council also has a cookout on Simpson Drill Field Friday night. The sports continue on Saturday as Aggie Volleyball takes on LSU at noon in Reed Arena. This will be a rematch of the Sweet 16 matchup from last year’s tournament.

Sunday will showcase Freshman Convocation and once again the Aggie soccer team as they take on Washington State at 1:30 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.

Freshman looking to relax before classes can take advantage of free rounds of golf at the TAMU golf course on Wed. Aug. 25, go to the Recreation Center for a canoe trip, and dance the night away at the Campus Dance.
