Defacto Productions presented the B/CS Post SXSW Show this past Friday at Schotzi’s that showcased Texas-local instrumental/experimental/rock band They Mean Us (McAllen, Tx), indie/rock Words In Windows (Abilene, Tx), indie/acoustic Blinded By Bears (Abilene, Tx) and pop/rock Young American (San Antonio, Tx). Joining them will be touring pop/punk act Same As Sunday (Indianapolis, IN) and local pop/rock band The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter. The cold wind didn’t keep music fans from pouring in, just brought them into a few extra pitchers. Overall a great show with some interesting groups Bryan/College Station hasn’t seen before.

This week’s free download is not just one song, but the full collection of music from SXSW. If you were busy slurping umbrella drinks or toiling away at work and didn’t get to SXSW, DON’T PANIC, we have the whole 1038 song collection linked online.

In 2005, the organizers of SXSW uploaded torrents of songs by bands that were scheduled to play the festival as a way of promoting the bands, their music and the event. After the official SXSW music upload ceased in 2008 the partygoers took over and began uploading the songs as one large file. The past five years’ songs have also been posted, but we are only linking you to the 2010 festival music.

There has been no explicit permission granted by the bands, so SXSW cannot officially condone the spread of the music but representatives of bands and SXSW have said that it has become one of the best ways for the smaller acts to get their music into the hands of the people. Jay Leno Show No Remorse For Conan O’Brien in New Tonight Show Promo

Burbank, CA, United States (CNS) – Well, this surely isn’t going to help his ratings. After a pretty nasty late-night brawl between Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien last month which resulted in the Peacock network booting out O’Brien after only a few months on air with the “Tonight Show,” while seeing Leno back in his original timeslot. Now, Leno is supposedly taking a dig at his former rival in his new promo commercials.

One new spot sees the salt-and-peppered one driving down a highway to the Beatles’ tune “Get Back” while a 10 sticker slowly flies off his car to reveal 11:35. The second spot simply shows Leno in front of an excited studio audience, also to the tune of the Beatles’ song.

Despite Leno’s enthusiasm in returning to his old job, many late-night viewers have been turned off by the entire fiasco between Leno and O’Brien. Many fans with Team Coco believed that the ginger-haired one wasn’t given enough of a chance to settle in to his new late-time job. At the same time, Leno’s 10:00 show ratings were failing as well, but for NBC it was in with the old, and out with the new, as they waved good-bye to O’Brien and settled on taking their best bets with the return of Leno as their number one late-night guy.

Meanwhile, a TVGuide.com poll reveals that a whopping 69% of viewers won’t be tuning in to see Leno crack his jokes at 11:35 PM. Only 15 percent of those polled said they will continue to watch Leno once he returns after the end of the broadcasting of the Olympics on March 1.

It seems these days that every day and week celebrates some cause or another, but here’s one day we can get behind: National Margarita Day 2010. Described as America’s favorite tequila-based cocktail, the Margarita traces its heritage back to 1948. The drink is named after socialite Margarita Sames, who according to the story created the drink at a party to please her guests. The legend claims that after inventing it, the party went on for two weeks. For those who’ve never sampled a Margarita before, the classic version of the drink consists of 1 ½ ounces tequila. 1 ounce Cointreau, ½ ounce lime juice, and a lime wedge for garnish.

At the beginning of the concert I spoke of a seven day old child who had been pulled from the wreckage several days after the earthquake hit. This baby become the symbol of hope for a nation. Similarly, we wanted this concert to stand as a symbol of hope for Haiti and with the sacred Aggie Spirit we were able to fulfill this duty. The concert was an amazing success and most importantly we brought a renewed sense of global compassion to our university.

We want to thank everyone who helped with the concert and attended the concert! The volunteers and participants made a choice when they joined this event…they choose to care for no other reason than their fellow human being was suffering. Such an action is so laudable and I hope they take some time to reflect on this.The thought that in a few days the money we raised will be distributed in the form of clean water, food, shelter, or maybe simply comforting those who have lost so much is so compelling. Finally, we ask that even though we may go our separate ways that we maintain the level of compassion and heart that we so exemplified on Feb. 12, 2010 as this is a lesson for our lifetimes.
