Northgate in the daytime? Oxymoron? No matter what time of day you find yourself on the Northgate side of town, there is always something to do.
In the morning, you can stop by the Starbucks, before your classes on northside, to grab your cup of coffee to get you through the day.
At lunchtime there are many options available. If you want some classic College Station food try Freebirds for burritos, nachos or most any other Mexican delight. If you’re in the mood for some pizza, Antonio’s by the Slice is right up your alley. If you want a cheap lunch the Corner Bar usually has good lunch specials. Happy Yogurt has amazing Asian food all hours of the day, beginning at noon. They even added chicken fried rice for a limited time, so if you’re feeling international definitely swing by Happy Yogurt.
If you’re in the mood for a huge Northgate tradition, day or night The Dixie Chicken is where you need to go. You can sit back, enjoy a cold beer, play some pool or dominoes. The Dixie Chicken, the “favorite local watering hole since 1974,” is one of a kind. The Chicken boasts a back porch where you can sit and enjoy the cool fall days, that should be coming soon (I hope).
If you are looking for free food then look no further than the Baptist Student Ministry. On Wednesdays the BSM has free lunch. I’ve never been, but I’m assuming it’s good. We all know Baptists can cook! There’s also a coffee shop directly across the street from the BSM. The coffee is free, and they have wi-fi so you can get some studying done.
The City of College Station has changed the way you can park at Northgate. The parking lot directly behind The Chicken is now $0.50 an hour Monday through Saturday at all times except from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. The city owned parking garage is free for the first hour before 8 p.m.
If you are out for a Sunday lunch there is free parking on city owned parking in Northgate from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The parking changes are aimed toward bringing more people into the Northgate businesses.
Northgate offers a variety of things to do in the daytime. Don’t be fooled by thinking that Northgate is only a place to go after dark. Get out and enjoy the light and walk around and see what Northgate has to offer in the daytime!
