Due to poor advertisement, most people don’t even know what the movie Daybreakers is—I myself didn’t even know what it was until my boyfriend wanted to go see it. A time bombarded by a vampire craze, I was reluctant to go, thinking it would be another gory movie with the same plot line as the one before it. But I decided to give it a chance, and I’m so happy that I did because it was in fact one of the better movies I’ve seen in a couple years.

What made this movie so different from other vampire movies in the past was the explorative, fresh plot. Edward, played by Ethan Hawke, works for a company trying desperately to find a blood replacement for the vampire race. (Because the world was taken over by an epidemic, less than 5% of the human race still exists.) In an attempt to preserve the life of vampires something has to be done. Edward however, is the exception to the rule in that he is not worried about finding a blood replacement; he is trying to save the human race.

This movie answers an unusual question, what do the vampires do when there is no more blood and their way of life is compromised? Daybreakers is a unique movie that sets it apart from anything in its genre; with a cast of great actors it is the most believable and terrifying of any movie in its class. I would recommend moviegoers to ignore the clichés that come with vampire movies and take a chance on this film. Not only was it well made, and well acted, it is one of the most terrifying movies I have ever seen. Go see it!
