CheapSkate: A cheapskate’s guide to having fun for free or so cheap it’s like you’re stealing

Swingin Hearts – Good news everyone! The Texas Aggie Swing Cats are graciously holding a Beginner Lindy Hop Workshop which is a handy one stop shop that consists of one full day of lessons, normally taught over the course of 4 weeks. Times are from 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. with a 45 minute lunch break, all for the low low cost of $10. Like stretching your bucks even further? Then fear not as this $10 also includes the Sweet Heart Swing Dance, located at the Garden Room in the Recreation Center on February 13th from 6 -11 p.m. Consider this whole day a great alternative to the hum drum ‘romantic’ dinner date you cheapskates are fond of. Boxes of chocolates are optional. Get more info at: tasc.tamu.edu or find them on Facebook.

Ag Night – Now this may be old news for all you seasoned ags so listen up newbies and misinformed ags! Aggie Nights is a campus event held every Friday night from 8 p.m. – midnight down in Studio 12 (located in the commons for those geographically challenged). Free food, music, entertainment, and other cool stuff are provided for my most favorite four letter word – free. Food is in the form of Dominoes pizza (which isn’t the best), but beggars can’t be choosers right? Come down and meet other cheap or broke ags and share in the merriment every Friday night. More info available at aggienights.tamu.edu.

Who: Aggies only

Overall bang for no buck rating: 3.5 out 5 mediocre pizzas

The Village – Ok before you stop reading, I’m not referring to the horrible M. Night Shyamalan movie. The Village Cafe and Art 979 Gallery offer weekly events and activities to cater to a vast group of intellectuals, social butterflies, and artistic souls. Wednesday nights (8 p.m. – 12 a.m.) is Get Lit night where recreational book readers and poet writers get together to discuss their habits and addictions to various books. This night also offers a poetry workshop for all those poetry addicts out there. Thursday night is Singer/Songwriter night from 8 p.m. – 12 a.m. and Friday nights always offer some form of free music. Info available at thevilliagedowntown.com.

Who: All the above mentioned (i.e. no kiddos)

Better than M. Night rating: 4.5 out of 5 IQ points

Cinemation – One great thing about this area is the ample opportunity for cheap cinema experiences. On February 12 from 7 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. Aggie Cinema will be presenting The Twilight Saga: New Moon for all the Twihard fans out there. Also being featured is the movie Food Inc., “an unflattering look inside America’s food industry” on February 15th from 7-9 p.m.   So if you like poor acting and don’t value your appetite, come out both nights and watch these movies for $1 if you’re a student and $2 if you’re not. Hey, even I may be tempted to watch Twilight for a dollar.

Who: All the peoples

Thematic Cheapness Rating: 4 out of 5 movie stubs
