CheapSkate: A cheapskate’s guide to having fun for free or so cheap it’s like you’re stealing.

Cheap Substances – The legal kind of course. Because I like food and I assume that you like food, too, I’ve decided to dedicate a small portion to a few cheap and great eats in the Bryan/College Station area. Consider, in the wake of the obesity epidemic, stuffing your face for cheap at Double Dave’s Pizzaworks from 5:30-9:00 on Wild Wooly Wednesdays. All the pepperoni rolls you can eat and 50¢ beer. Gumby’s also has Big Deal, where you can get a large cheese pizza and an order of pokey sticks for $6.99 any day. Great after-drinking deal. If you like chicken wings, which most cheap people do, then consider stopping by Buffalo Wild Wings for their Wing Tuesdays 50¢ wings. Wings and More also has great lunch specials Monday – Friday for $7.25 which includes an entree and drink. If you have fancier tastes that you can’t afford not to, consider Eccell Steakhouse on Monday’s for their half-priced happy hour, and half-priced appetizer and side menus. La Riviera Restaurant and Bakery offers a free appetizer with a purchase of a regular entry from 5:00-9:00 pm. If you’re interested in more great food deals check out shopbrazos.com.

Wolfly Chicken Wings – On April 28th the Arctic Wolf Ice center will be hosting Wing-less Bowl. Due to a lack of participants, this event will no longer be hosting a wing eating contest, but fret not; this event will have broomball, ice skating, and more ice skating all for the low, low price of $5. Live music will also be provided for this great event to help burn of all those wing and pizza calories I suggested you consume earlier, so stop by. Broomball starts at 6:00 p.m., Ice Skating at 7:00 p.m., and more Ice Skating afterwards. If you don’t know what broomball is then imagine hockey with brooms and no skates. More information is available at arcticwolfice.com.

Strange Aggie Love – On Friday, April 23rd MSC Aggie Cinema Arthouse is presenting their last film for the semester. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and the Love Bomb.  This oldie but goodie is set during the days of the U.S.S.R and is a comedic approach to the end of the world. Long story short, General Jack Ripper (pun intended?) goes insane with a need to destroy the U.S.S.R., who is “poisoning the precious body fluids of the American people,” but only soon finds out that doing so will result in the destruction of life on earth itself. Find out if he succeeds. As one reviewer wrote, “It’s the only movie that makes you laugh at the end of the world.” This movie has been nominated for various awards and is directed by Stanley Kubrick; it is also ranked #30 on IMBD’s top 250 movie list, which is a pretty good list. The movie will be shown at Rudder in room 302 and starts at 8:00 p.m. and admission is free for students and non-students. More information available at cinema.tamu.edu.
