Swampy Films– If you happen to have an appreciation for cinematic creations by non-Tarantino like peeps, then consider attending the SWAMP Film Festival.  Hosted by Aggie SWAMP (Screen Writing, Acting & Movie Production) club (that’s clever), this event will host a variety of short films submitted by student film makers across Texas.  This film festival will begin on April 16th from 7:30-10:30 p.m.  Can’t make it? Don’t worry, the festival will also be held on April 17th starting at the same time.  Tickets are only $3 at the door.  This great film festival will be held at the Preston M. Geren Auditorium in the Langford building.  This event will also feature the musical talents of Johnny King & We Can, We Will on Friday and Caleb Mak on Saturday.  More information is available at swamfestfilm.com.

Mother Earth Day – In attempt to keep up with all the cool hippie kids, Brazos Valley is hosting their own Earth Day on Saturday April 17th.  This event is officially known as “Planet Earth Celebration,” which sounds like their celebrating the Discovery channel series, and is a community wide effort held every year.   This event is being held at Wolf Pen Creek Auditorium and runs from 11 am – 4 pm.   There will be various performances by Kent South (Bluegrass/Folk Rock), Tubie and the Touchstones, Kids club, and many others.  There will also be plenty of eco-friendly presentations and topics discussed, such as how to save rainwater and not die, or composting in your backyard.  To top it all off they’ll be highlighting some of the top Alternative forms of transportation in the form of “smart cars.”  Admission is free, which should cater to many of my cheap peeps.  More information is available at brazosfalleyearthday.com

South African Play – Starting Friday, April 15th Texas A&M’s Performance Studies group presents My Children! My Africa! by Athol Fugard.  This is a student-performed play directed by Dr. David Donkor, a faculty member of Africana Studies and Performances Studies.  In short this play revolves around racial turmoil in South Africa during the 1980’s.  It’s a powerful and moving piece and promises to be well represented by our student body.   Show times are from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.  If you miss out don’t worry because they will be performing the following weekend of the 22-24th.  The play will be held in Rudder Theatre Complex’s Forum room and admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students.  More information can be obtained from Chris Harrell at  HYPERLINK “mailto:Christopher-partrick-harrell@tamu.edu”Christopher-partrick-harrell@tamu.edu.
