CheapSkate: A Cheapskate’s Guide to Having Fun for Free or So Cheap It’s Like You’re Stealing.

Sbisa Birthdays – For many of the experienced Aggies, Sbisa Dining Hall’s food is only edible in short and infrequent pig-out bursts.  But once a month, Sbisa manages to offer some unquestionable goodies, and those days are Birthday Celebration Days.  On April 15, starting at 11 am, Sbisa Dining Hall will be celebrating all the April birthdays by providing a large cake.  If you’re cheap like me, then this would be a great way to get away with celebrating a friend’s birthday without having to hassle with baking a cake. Cake will be served up until 2 p.m.  Standard Sbisa dining rates apply (which are unknown to me, as I haven’t entered the dining hall since 2006) but I’m sure it’s not too much.  Check out diningservices.tamu.edu.

Who: All the April babies and everyone who just likes cake.

Celebratory Rating: 3 out of 5 dining dollars.

It’s LGBT time! – A call to all the diversity supporters out there.  On March 31 and April 1 the Texas A&M LGBT organization will be holding the It’s Time Conference.  Partake in a scholarly symposium, “Queer of Color Symposium” and “25 Years After: LGBT in Higher Education – The Case of Texas A&M.”  Food will be provided with pre-registration at no cost and it’s is open to everyone.  Come celebrate Texas A&M’s cultural and diversity milestones and learn about the LGBT community! Information and registration available at itstime.tamu.edu.

Who: Everyone.

Diversely diverse rating: 4.5 out of 5 educational rainbows.

Farmers Market – Now I know this may be a little late in the game and also not technically classifiable as “fun,” but here it is.  If you’d like a chance to support local farmers or just know how to appreciate great produce, then stop by Sbisa Dining Hall every Thursday for the weekly Farmers Market.  Choose from a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables at low prices.  This market runs from 10am to 2pm and offers great prices on high-quality produce.

Who:  Anyone.

Freshness rating: 4 out of 5 strawberries.

Zombie-Aggieland – Looking for an excuse to shoot people with a nerf gun?  Or maybe thinking you’d like to practice surviving for the upcoming apocalypse?  Whatever the case may be, consider joining in on the next Humans vs. Zombies game of wide-spread campus tag!  Played by campuses all over the nation, this huge game offers players an opportunity to test out their human survival skills or zombie feasting skills, and it has proven to be a blast each time.  Register at tamuhvz.com and watch all of the player’s scores andkills.  Registration is free.  The game starts the week of March 29 through April 1 and registration opens March 22.  Don’t fret if you miss out; games occur every semester.  Get more information on Facebook: search for “Fightin’ Texas Aggies HUMANS vs ZOMBIES.”

Who: Flesh eaters and apocalypse beaters.

Brain eating rating: 5 out of 5 walking dead.
