Trashy – If you’re worried that this has anything to do with trailer parks or ghettos, then have no fear. This is actually an educational (yes I said educational, don’t stop reading) exploration into one of the most overlooked industries in the nation: the garbage industry. This film also explores American culture’s idea of “waste,” which should be eye-opening, to say the least. The documentary will be shown on Friday April 30th from 11:30 am – 12:00 pm in room 227 in Koldus. Free admission. Contact Diane Kraft for information and to give a polite advance notice that you will be attending. More information available from dkraft@tamu.edu.

Fiesta! – Anytime I hear the word “fiesta” I get excited because Mexican parties are always awesome. Come by and experience a great cultural event with the local MSC CAMAC (Committee for the Awareness of Mexican-American Culture) on Saturday May 1st. Fiesta 505 is a celebration of Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican holiday celebrating a famous battle in which Mexican soldiers defeated the French. This event will be held at Simpson Drill Field from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Various stands will provide food and the celebration will feature many cultural performances and lots of great music. Admission is also free but food isn’t, so bring some cash. More information is available at camac.tamu.edu.

Perpetual Dance – If you enjoy dance or like to live vicariously through the dance lives of others, then consider coming out the support the Texas A&M dance program at their annual performance. These performers receive technique and choreography training that has paid off greatly, helping them to become the top-notch performers that they are. On the weekend of May 7th-9th, Perpetual Motion will be held in Read 263. Friday and Saturday the show will start at 7:30 pm, and on Sunday May 9th the show will start at 9:00 pm. Admission is $8 for the general public and $5 for students. More information is available at their website, tamudance.tamu.edu.

Beneficial Nudity? – As far as I’m concerned, any kind of nudity can be beneficial, but it’s all, of course, mainly dependant on who’s nude and where they’re nude. On May 5th, Texas A&M will take its turn at the beneficial Undie Run, which is a charity event where participants donate the clothes off of their backs to charity and do a run in their undies. According to Inaggieland.com, this event will be held on Wednesday May 5th at the clock tower by Simpson Drill Field. It is reported to start at midnight and all underwear is welcome except for actual nudity (underwear is required). Others can also support the cause by donating clothing or money at the event.
