University Band Stand – As cool as that sounds, this blurb isn’t about TV dancing. On April 9ththe university Symphonic and Concert band are performing at the Bryan Civic Auditorium starting at 7 p.m. These talented musicians possess just as much musical skill as the Corps band but luckily enough don’t have to be in the Corps band (no offense). All proceeds will be contributed to Lone Star Honor Flight, an organization that assists World War II veterans. Tickets are $10 and are available for purchase at the Conference Center on George Bush Drive. Information available at tamubands.tamu.edu.

Al-Qaeda! – So, to many, politics aren’t fun in any way, shape or form. But for the few that find political discourse invigorating and a good ol’ time, consider stopping by Rudder Auditorium on April 9th for the Chasing Al-Qaeda lecture by General Wesley Clark and Governor Tom Ridge. General Clark is a former NATO Supreme allied commander and Governor Ridge is the first secretary of homeland security. This lecture will discuss the growth of Al-Qaeda in Yemen as well as the ever-changing face of terrorism. Tickets can be purchased at the MSC box office, $10 for students and $20-$25 for non-students. The first 400 people to purchase tickets will be able to get them for only $15.

Terrorism threat rating: Red (not really)
He/She or She/He! – Confused about your gender? Maybe you always wondered what it would be like to dress like someone of the opposite sex? (Don’t worry, I’m not judging you.) If you have, then Halo’s Gender Bender Ball on April 10th is an event you should definitely consider attending! A silent auction will also be held from 9:30 – 11 p.m. in order to benefit the Bryan/College Station Health Center HIV Prevention unit and Aggie Allies. No cover before 11 p.m. If you’re fashionably late, then get ready to pay $10 if you’re under 21 and $5 for 21 and up. But don’t be too late, since the drag show starts at 11 p.m. Located in downtown Bryan at 121 N. Main St., this ball should prove to be a great time for all! People who aren’t gender benders are also welcome.

Social norm bending rating: 4.5 out of 5 drag queens
Kite Festival – The Pakistani Students Association of Texas A&M is hosting the 3rd Annual Basant Festival of Kites on April 11th from 4 – 8:30 p.m. This festival is a part of their heritage celebration and will be featuring many talented performers such as the Chi Psi Beta Step team, Tabla & Sitar with Atul & Rahul (not sure what that means) and many more. They will also be auctioning scholarships worth $2,000 each. So come by and celebrate and learn about a part of the Pakistan culture, enjoy a great show and great food.
