Legion, which could have been an interesting story about a swarm of angry angels that flood the earth in darkness, instead became an awkwardly humorous Hollywood farce. The film focused on a fallen archangel, Michael, (Paul Bettany ofThe Da Vinci Code and A Knight’s Tale), who sawed off his own wings to combat the swarm of angels and save humanity.
The potential Legion had was lost in translation, a farce due to the acting and the script. Though Paul Bettany gave an admirable performance as the fallen archangel, Lucas Black (Friday Night Lights) left the audience thinking, “never go full retard.” And though the scripts for action movies are notoriously bad, this was just too much. Tyrese Gibson actually said these words: “When I was a shorty, I got good at being bad… But when you get older, being bad ain’t so good anymore.”
