Salsa! (The dance not the food) – Do Latin beats appeal to you? Does your lack of skills prevent you from enjoying them properly? The better question is, ever want to take a Salsa lessons for cheap? If your answer is YES! (exclamation mark included) then you’re in luck because the Village downtown offers CHEAP Salsa lessons every Saturday night. Mild Wild West – Attention art enthusiasts, history buffs, and slackers! Forsyth Center Galleries will be hosting The American West, Then and Now featuring 19th-century American West artists, alongside photographs of “today’s American West” by photographer Scott Edwards until February 20th. Take a brief and pleasing tour of history without having to read a single book! Photographs featured are meant to reveal how much life has changed over a really long period of time. Revolutionary Tunes – Eclectic, random, or just appreciate a good time and good music? Then Revolution Café and Bar is for you. Come by and see Puente, January 28, a “real roots music band” that will feel like French Quarter blues. The Box Car Bandits will be performing on January 30th and though many may be reminded of the Box Car Children novels, this skunkgrass/bluegrass group is anything but orphaned children living in box cars. $5 cover fee usually applied to underage peeps on weekends, but can vary. Pure Country! – Ha! Now that I have the entire George Straight fan’s attention I want you to know I haven’t forgotten about you country fans. The Texas Hall of Fame will be hosting the musical talents of Kyle Park on January 29th starting 11 p.m. Kyle Park’s new album, “Anywhere in Texas” has been compared to the likes of Jason Boland, Randy Rogers and Stoney LaRue, so if you speak country music, I’m assuming it means he’s good. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door which is pretty cheap for a concert. Visit texashalloffame.net for info.
