The Fourth Kind
By Lyndsay Humphrey
The possibility that there might be something or someone else out there is at times a terrifying concept. Our sense of helplessness and vulnerability is exposed by the simple fact that most of us, I’m willing to say all of us, would have no idea how to fight off an alien abduction.
This simple concept is what fuels this movie and makes it such a horrifying experience. I personally love scary movies but I’m also the person that usually goes home, makes sure all the windows are locked, and chooses the safe side of the bed. The Fourth Kind follows a psychologist who is attempting to understand what is going on in her small town in Alaska. She conducts interviews with the people who claim to have experienced something very difficult to understand. The unique and brilliant technique of The Fourth Kind that is that is uses real interviews and real audio from the actual case studies.
The patients all claim to be seeing white owls in their bedrooms at night and seem to be restless and disturbed by the reoccurrences. When the people start coming in with the same story it sparks an investigation to figure out just what is going on with these people. With a semi-slow beginning the movie quickly accelerates halfway through leaving you on the edge of your seat until the very last second.
For those of you who already have a developed a fear of aliens, this may not be the movie for you. I will admit that after seeing it I had a hard couple of nights trying to sleep. The claims and real footage of these incidents makes the possibility all too real. Although it was a very disturbing movie, I highly recommend that everyone go and see it, whether for a good scare or maybe some insight on what could be going on around us.
